Gymnastics Paralletes - LSit
Monday, October 1, 2012 at 1:46PM I like to use some sort of parallette when I'm doing my workouts at home. Being a retired gymnast, this is the type of training I used to do. Usually I use perfect pushups. I like how they twist and create some instability while doing pushups and handstands. But, they are pretty low to the ground which makes some exercises difficult, and others just not possible. which is fine, they are still a great tool. But, when movestrong sent me their new parallettes, I was blown away at how nice these are to use, and how they feel so comfortable. They are super high quality and are a great addition to the home gym. I like that they are taller than the perfect pushups, and the extra height gives me a few more options for exercises in the home.
You will probably want some sort of parallette for your home gym to switch up your routine, and add some variety to your workout. plus, if you have any wrist pain, these can help, if you use them correctly. You want to make sure you are holding the handle with a straight wrist, and not with a hyper flexed wrist. I see that as a common mistake.
One basic exercise do do with these parallettes is the L sit, where your legs straight out in front of you while holding your body in a support position. The L sit is a great exercise for these muscles (abs, hip flexors, lats, chest, triceps, and more!) and it requires some hamstrings flexibility to keep your knees straight. if your flexibility or strength isn't quite there yet, you can start by practicing the L sit with bent knees.
