A ride up Latigo with EJ Viso
Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at 1:30PM I was fortunate enough to ride with a client of mine and current champ car driver E.J. Viso. E.J. is about my height 5’4” and about 144lbs, and is my Venezuelan counterpart – (I chose the wrong profession). We took a nice quick stroll up Latigo and I can testify that E.J. is a very fit guy. They waited 4 minutes or so for me at the top of the 10 mile climb, then we took a death-defying speed race down Kanan where we hit 52.5 MPH!!! We were drafting, holding lines, white knuckling it down Kanan and all I could think about was not crashing or hitting a rock and blowing a tire. That was definitely the fastest I have ever gone on the road bike… and I’m not sure I’ll do it again. Only after I was done cruising at 52.5 MPH did I stop and think that was probably not a great idea. Not such good risk management on my part. It is bad enough to be riding bikes on the road in practically your underwear amongst cars without adding the element of ridiculous speeds.
At least I lived to tell about it!
